BRIGHT DISPLAY BY CARADUS

DUNEDIN-CARISBROOK B’s GOOt) SCORE The Albion-Y.M C.A. -North-East Valley captain (L. D. Smith) won the toss in the match against , Dun-edin-Carisbrook B at Tonga Park and sent the opposing team to the wickets. A R. Knight and J. G. Young, the opening pair, took 20 minutes to bring up double figures. With the total at 12, Young fell to a catch by Smith at mid-on off Silver just as he appeared to be settling down. R. Caradus followed, and Knight, who had been scoring slowly, singles, brightened up a little, hitting a ball from Silver for 6 over the line at fine-leg. Shortly afterwards, however, he touched one from Silver and was taken behind the stumps by I. Jones, his score being 27. Seven wickets were down for 87 when Kerr joined Caradus, and both men opened out and drove well. Caradus reached his 50 just before the tea adjournment, but shortly after the resumption Kerr was bowled by a short ball from Silver, having batted aggressively for J 3, which included four 4’s. The partnership added 63 runs. Hambleton and Caradus then became associated in another bright partnership of 70. Hambleton was caught when he had scored 28, and the total was 220 At this stage Caradus was 94 not out, made in 150 minutes. V. Donnelly came in and unfortunately was unable to stay long enough to give the young Carisbrook player an opportunity to reach his century. Caradus gave three chances. Silver, bowling from the south end, kept a good length and finished with seven wickets for 70. Smith turned the ball from both sides, his three wickets costing 77 runs. Albion Combined began its innings at two minutes past 5 o'clock with Bellamy and Smith, and the two left-handers found little difficulty with the bowling, scoring freely, although mostly in singles and twos. In 45 minutes they had put on 82, when Smith, in trying a big hit, was caught behind the wickets by Hambleton. He had played attractively for 30 runs. Bellamy was not long in following, being caught at deep cover by Young. Both batsmen were out in forcing the scoring, as neither will be available next Saturday, when they will be away with the Otago team. Silver, who will also not be available on Saturday for the same reason, had a short stay, being bowled by Donnelly for 4, and at stumps three wickets were down for 84.
