“TORYISM” v. SOCIALISM

Sir,—Mr C. H Taylor cannot challenge the accuracy of my figures, but obviously resents legitimate criticism of our Socialistic planners, who are dragging us along “ the road, to serfdom.” As I view it, Mr Taylor’s Tory ” considers the average citizen and exponent of private enterprise to be reasonably intelligent, and with fairly sound judgment as to how his own money should be spent to the best advantage. Mr Walter Nash, on the other hand, has recently reaffirmed his belief in his own omniscience as high priest of State control in the following terms:—“l am keen to take every road that makes money for the State. The wisest thing to do is to take alLthe money that is available, and spend it in a better way than those who have it would spend it.” Again, we are warned what to expect under progressive Socialism. —I am, etc., R. Finch. Oamaru, September 24.
