FARM MACHINERY
SUPPLY FROM BRITAIN URGED MUTUAL BENEFITS STRESSED (F.0.P.R.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 25. The placing of orders with British firms for the urgent supply of agricultural implements and other machinery and materials necessary for a special post-war production effort in New Zealand was urged by Mr W. J. Poison (Oppn., Stratford) in notice of a question to the Minister of Finance, Mr W. Nash, in the House of Representatives to-day. Mr Poison suggested that this be done in view of the Mother Country’s urgent need for food, raw materials and export trade, and of the large accumulation of sterling funds now idle in London. Such a production effort should provide for the maximum possible primary production in New Zealand, the maximum possible supglies of food and raw materials to reat Britain, employment and agricultural experience for returned servicemen, consequent help towards prosperity in Great Britain and New Zealand, and the encouragement of free enterprise without increasing the public debt.
