PRICE OF OATS

NEXT SEASON’S CROP INCREASE OF FOURPENCE (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Sept. 4. An increase in the ceiling price to be paid for white oats grown and harvested in the 1945-46 season was announced to-day by the Minister of Agriculture, Mr B. Roberts. The new price will be 4s a bushel, free on rail, sacks extra, replacing the former price of 3s 8d a bushel. The Minister said the increase of 4d was provided to cover proved increases in costs. It allowed for increases since the price order was originally issued and also for all cost increases affecting the production and harvesting of the 1945-46 crop, including the impact of the recent and pending wage increases which might enter directly or indirectly into farmers’ costs relative to the oat crop. “The new price provides an incentive for the growing of white oats,” the Minister added.
