DAIRY FACTORY PAY-OUT The Milton Dairy Factory opened its thirty-fourth season on Monday morning with an intake of 400 gallons of milk, a slightly higher figure than that on opening day last year. With a final pay-out on Saturday of 4fd per lb, the directors announced a total pay-out for last season of 22id per lb butter-fat—the highest for 24 years. In spite of the severe winter there is an abundance of feed, and herds generally are in a much better condition now than at the start of last season. RUGBY FOOTBALL The final of the Third Grade Knock-out Cup competition will be played on Saturday at Milton between Toko and Crescent. The Toko Club has suggested September 22 as a suitable date for playing the return matches at Milton between senior and the third grade teams from the Toko and Zingari-Richmond Clubs. ANNIVERSARY OF MILL CAFETERIA To mark the first anniversary of the mill cafeteria the Bruce Social Club held a social evening in the cafeteria on Saturday night, the building being packed to the doors. The evening took the form of a dance, interspersed with the following items: —Mr O. J. Densem, Miss A. Wilson (vocal solos); Misses Doreen and Cathie Smith (duet); Mesdames W. Carruthers and C. Fitzgerald (duet); Mr Raki-raki and party (instrumental trio); Mr J. Donald (violin solos); Mrs Fitzgerald and party (ballet); Miss Balloch (Highland dancing). Music for the dancing was supplied free by Mrs C. Keinan, Miss L. Keinan, Messrs W. Taylor. R. Paul, B. Kirby, and A. Hunter. Mr W. Dee was M.C. Mr A. Gregson, president of the Social Club extended a welcome to all. and announced that in the near future the club intended to entertain retired workers and elderly workers of the Bruce Mills. THE RAINFALL Very little rain was recorded in Milton last month, the total being only 0.27-inch. For the corresponding month last year the total recorded was 2.62 inches. PERSONAL At Sunday morning’s service in the Toko Presbyterian Church the Rev. S. T. Nicholls expressed the pleasure and pride of the congregation in the recent announcement that W. 0.11. I. F. Thomson had been mentioned in despatches. He offered the church's congratulations and said that four men on the' roll of honour of the church had achieved military distinction in the war, the others being Flying Officer J. A. McGuire, D.F.C., and W. 0.1. T. H. Wilson and Lieutenant D. G. Murray, the two last-named having been mentioned in despatches on earlier occasions. VITAL STATISTICS The registrations at the Milton Post Office for August, with the figures for the corresponding month of last year in parentheses, were:—Births 7 (4), marriages 3 (3), deaths 3 (4).
