LAWRENCE

TUAPEKA DOMAIN BOARD The quarterly meeting of the Tuapeka Domain Board was attended by Messrs G. R Talboys (chairman), W. F. Labes, G. Weston, R. Gray and T. H. Clark. The chairman referred to the death of Dr W. Sutherland, who had been a member of the board for 28 years, and members paid the customary tribute. It was decided to hold over till next season an application from the Lawrence Football Club for the installation of electric lights, and the use of the camping ground for practice purposes. The secretary was authorised to order four walnut trees which are to be planted in the camping ground as a memorial to Dr Sutherland. A sufficient number of macrocarpas to fill gaps on the southern boundary of the camping ground is also to be ordered. It was further resolved to plant a number of fir trees, which had been given by Mr R. Gray, in the south-west corner of block 18. It was resolved that the Works Committee be authorised to clear broom and weeds from the south macrocarpa belt and the road line adjoining the camping ground. LADY GALWAY GUILD The monthly meeting of the Lawrence •branch of the Lady Galway Guild was held in St. Patrick’s Hall on Friday. Mrs W. J. Suters presiding. Three parcels were received from Waitahuna, and also one quilt. INDOOR BASKETBALL Miss J. Thompson and Mr T. Allen, Otago physical welfare officet’s, will visit Lawrence to-morrow evening for the purpose of organising men’s and women’s indoor basketball teams. A large attendance is expected, as the game is becoming increasingly popular. BRING-AND-BUY SALE The funds of the Lawrence Football Club have been considerably augmented bv the proceeds of a bring-and-buy sale which was held last week. The function was organised by a ladies’ committee, the convener of which was Mrs E. Thomas. The appreciation of the members for the support accorded the effort was publicly expressed by the vice-president, Mr D. P. Perriam, at the evening function.
