NOTES FROM RICCARTON

BEAU CHEVAL TRAINING ON (Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 31. The Trentham trainer, H. A. Telford, was able to go home this week, after being m hospital since the close of the Grand National meeting. Beau Cheval is training o.n well and he is due to start the new season at Ashburton. He showed some good form last season and he may go on to even better deeds at four years, with prospects that he will stay. C. C. McCarthy has .three of his team in the John Grigg Stakes at Ashburton and probably two of them will be started. Eudora has shown promise of being above the average, so far as speed is concerned, while Swingalong, a good-looking sister to John o’ London, may be backward. Mr H., D. Greenwood has a couple of three-year-olds who may be seen to advantage this season. Sanskrit, who

has great speed, looks a good prospect for the Novice Stakes at Ashburton, where Thombridge will be a candidate for the John Grigg Stakes, with a chance that he will do even better, later on, over more ground, as he is a Foxbridge gelding who should stay. Native Song, a 10-year-old Hunting Song gelding, half-brother to Kindergarten, has just come in from a spell. He will be used for a few months as a hack, after which R. B. Robinson will get him ready for another jumping campaign. It is unfortunate that he suffers from unsoundness, as he has some useful hurdle form. Maggiore is being kept in work, with a view to the hurdle race at Ashburton, but her retirement to the stud may come soon.
