MOSGIEL DEFEATS ROSLYNWAKARI
The Otago Football Association’s competitions were continued on Saturday under ideal conditions, but a light ball, and comparatively dry gmunds were responsible for a lot of mistiming and wild kicking. The largest crowd of this season saw Mosgiel narrowly defeat Roslyn-Wakari at the Oval. The Chatham Cup was not at stake. The results were as follows: Mosgiel 2, Roslyn-Wakari 1. Mornington 3, Maori Hill 1. Northern 4, Old Boys 1.
Mosgiel v. Roslyn-Wakari
The large crowd at the Oval must have been disappointed at the standard of football in tne match between Mosgiel and Roslyn-Wakari. There was little combination, and the game, in consequence, was very ragged. Mosgiel attacked early, but Simpson cleared, and Welham shot past. Both sides • were over-anxious. Mosgiel opened the scoring, McCloy beating Dickinson with a fine drive. The same player scored again, and at the interval Mosgiel led by two goals. During the greater part of the second spell Roslyn had much the better of the exchanges. The Mosgiel goal had some narrow escapes, R. Steven and Mills getting their side out of difficulties repeatedly. Welham, receiving from Wilson, sent on to Burgess, who sent across the goal mouth to Holleybon, who scored with a fast drive. Roslyn tried desperately to equalise, but the Mosgiel defence held, and time was called with the score: Mosgiel 2. Ros-lyn-Wakari 1. The referee was Mr J. Welch. Northern v. Old Boys At the Gardens grounds the return match between Northern and Old Boys was evenly contested in the first spell. Northern’s strong defence nullified all attempts to score, Stevenson dealing safely with some fine drives. After the interval Northern had much the better of play and goals were scored by Berry (2), Finla.yson (1), and dieir youthful outside left scored from a comer kick. Howee scored a goal for Old Boys. The final result was: North, ern 4, Old Boys 1. Mr S. J. Dodd was the referee. Mornington v. Maori Hill t Prospect Park was in good order, but the light ball had most of the players guessing. Play was fast and open, neither side showing to advantage, although Mornington put plenty of dash into its play. Lower Grade Results Intermediate: Training College 4, Maori Hill 3; University A 6, Northern 1; Caversham B 3, University B 2. Fourth Grade: King's 4, RoslynWakari 0; Mosgiel 4, 0.8.H.5. B 2.
