JAPANESE TRAPPED
FORCES IN CAGAYAN VALLEY RAPID AMERICAN ADVANCE WASHINGTON, (Rec. 8.15 p.m.) June 25. “American troops have now thoroughly trapped the Japanese forces in the Cagayan Valley,” reports General MacArihur's communique. “ The Thirty-seventh Division advanced down the valley within four miles of Tuguearao. Qur northern column is pushing to the south from the Parri sector.
“The Tenth Corps and Philippine guerrilla units are aggressively mopping up isolated enemy groups on Mindanao.
“Heavy bombers bombed the Kobi alcohol refinery on Formosa. Other aircraft, enforcing the coastal blockade, wrecked three freighters and destroyed two large sailing ships southwest of Hongkong. They also bombed petroleum storage areas at Nanking, and set fire to an arsenal near Canton.
“Our ground, air and naval units continued the reduction of enemy forces on Borneo. They destroyed four coastal vessels, and daqiaged others under construction in the Pontianak area, heavily hit Balikpapan, and set fire to fuel dumps on the northern coast.”
