RED CROSS NOTES
On Wednesday evening last the Red Cross V.A.’s held a delightful party in the Red Cross Practical Rooms, Stuart street, the guest of honour being Miss Iris Crooke, of Wellington, Dir-
ector-general of New Zealand Voluntary Aids. Miss D. O. Ramsay, centre commandant. welcomed Miss Crooke on behalf of Miss Wilkin and the Voluntary Aids. Other guests present were lady superintendents, meifibers of the Transport Detachment, and representatives from the Port Chalmers, Anderson’s Bay, and Macandrew Bay Sub-centres. The opportunity was taken to welcome home several Voluntary Aids who have recently returned from service overseas. The room was tastefully decorated with scarlet berries and symbols of the Red Cross adorned the walls. Prior to the commencement of the party Miss Crooke inspected some interesting team work by members of the detachments, and congratulated the girls on their fine display. Miss Crooke * delivered an inspiring address on postwar activities. Miss McCalluih, assistant centre commandant, moved a vote of thanks to the speaker. During the evening the Red Cross Choir, conducted by Miss Betty Allen, rendered some items, and Miss V. McCracken was applauded for two vocal numbers. Miss Mary Fraser was the accompanist. Supper brought a happy evening to a close. Classes in advanced diet and nutrition will commence next Tuesday night in the Arthur Street School and Moray Place Manual Training Centre at 7, o’clock. *
