FORBURY PARK CLUB
DATES FOR NEW SEASON A meeting of the comrmttee of the Forbury Park Trotting Club was held last night, those present being Messrs B. S. Irwin (in the chair), H. I-lalliday, D. C. Jolly J Trengrove, A. Ferguson, A. H. Todd, and H. Archbold. When the question of the new season s racing dates was under consideration Mr Halliday said he hoped the chairman would stress the fact at the annual conference of the Trotting Association that the Forbury Club did not have , one holiday date. He expressed the opinion that clubs would have racing dates restored in the new season, and that provision would have to be made for two-day meetings. The chairman said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. Parry) had promised the club two extra days’ racing. He did not think they would get them, but he felt sure they would have their original dates restored. * It was decided to apply for the folding ’ dates next season:—Spring, meeting, October 13 and 15: summer meeting. January 26 and 28; winter meeting, March 30 The chairman was appointed the clubs delegate to the annual meeting of the New Zealand Trotting Conference, on July 12. Course Improvements The opinion was expressed that the present number board was altogether inadequate, and on the motion of Mr Todd the matter was referred to the Works Committee. The chairman also referred to the need for Improvements to the track and general facilities. Balloting System \ letter was received from the Southland Trotting Owners and Breeders’ Association stating that at a meeting of the committee of the association reference had been made to the balloting system adopted by the Forbury Club The opinion was expressed that it wa» unfair, particularly at this time of the vear, for owners to keep horses in work for several weeks and then run the risk of having them balloted out of a race. The lcttci added that a motion was earned protesting against the balloting system The association considered that, particularly in slower-class races, clubs would be assisting the sport by running division races wherever it was necessary. —lt was decided to inform the association that its protest would be placed before the incoming committee. Tile Winter Meeting
Mr F J. Beer, stipendiary steward, in a report on the winter meeting, suggested that the loud-speakers in front qf the main stand should be placed elsewhere, as from the stewards’ stand they blocked Ihe view of fields entering the straight.— Referred to the Broadcasting Committee for a report. A loss of £702 on the winter meeting was reported by the secretary. Accounts amounting to £399 6s lOd were passed for payment,
