AUSTRALIAN DROUGHT
HEAVY LOSSES OF SHEEP SYDNEY, May 23. Sheep losses from the recent drought now exceed 6,000,000 says Dr H. J. Hynes, of the Commonwealth Department of Agriculture. He stated that when the losses from causes other than drought and poor lambing are tallied the total will be staggering. In the south-western district of New South Wales feed had almost disappeared, and surface water supplies were nearing exhaustion. This area carried more than 20,000,000 sheep, almost half the total for New South Wales, and more than 400,000 head of cattle.
