One witness at a sitting of the Parliamentary Committee on Local Government in Kaikohe was emphatic in his answer to a question whether a local body or State department should control certain local body affairs. “ Most definitely a local bodv should do the job,” he said: " You can at least get rid of them, but a State department goes on forever.” A striped marlin weighing 3071 b was caught off the Tairua coast by Mr N. Jonassen, of Thames, at the week-end. Mr Jonassen hooked the fish in the vicinity of the Alderman Islands. It was a particularly fine specimen.
