ANGLING NOTES
The Otago Anglers' Association held a bare fly competition on the • Tomahawk Lagoon on Saturday last. There were nine competitors, and Mr B. Mitchell was the winner with one fish weighing 21b lloz. Mr Mitchell thus won the Speirs Cup for the highest aggregate in two competitions. Palmerston Club The Palmerston Club held its first competition on the Shag and Pleasant Valley Rivers recently. Fishing on the Shag, Mr A. J. Kitchens was first with a basket weighing 81b 9oz, and Mr J. Russell second with one of 81b 4oz taken from Pleasant Valley River, and Mr J. J. Haggie third with trout weighing 21b 13oz caught in the Shag. The Taierl River A mixed bag was taken from the Taieri River last week-end by Master S. Donaldson, totalling 14 fish, compiising trout and flounders. Included in this catch was a nice trout which turned the . scales at 71b. Master T. McAuliffe was also successful in landing four trou* and four perch, and still another youth, Colin Thompson, was rewarded with three trout up to 31b.' The final competition for this season was held by the Wyndham Club last week-end. The winner was Mr H. W Heath ,with an excellent basket of five fish weighing 151 b 12oz, taken from the Mataura in the vicinity of Clarks Island. Mr D. Fraser was second with two fish weighing 61b 4oz, and Mr B. Leitch third with three fish weighing 31b lloz. The winner of the £7 7s cup awarded to the competitor with the highest aggregate in five competitions was D. Fraser, with a total of 50 fish-, weighing 801 b Boz, H. W. Heath being second with 40 fish (771 b 8oz), and A B. Leitch third with 43 fish (521 b 2oz).
