WATERFRONT INQUIRY

CONCLUSION OF SITTINGS (Special) AUCKLAND, Mar. 19. An inquiry which had particular reference to a request from the Auckland Waterside Workers’ Union that the actions of a Union Steam Ship Company official be investigated, was concluded on Saturday morning at the office of the waterfront controller, Mr W. J. Cuthbert. Both the public and the press were excluded from the sittings, which were conducted by the Wellington conciliation commissioner, Mr S. Ritchie, and lasted for more than four days. Submissions were made by 22 workers and four representatives of the employers. Before leaving for Wellington. Mr Ritchie said some of the evidence was of an interesting nature. It would be submitted with a certain recommendation to the Minister of Labour, Mr P. C. Webb, who had instigated the inquiry.
