THE TRAMWAY SERVICE

Sir,—Can you, or anyone else, tell us why the request from many women for a seat at the Exchange and one at the foot of High street have been ignored w ith no excuse or apology? For a number of years, numerous requests have been made bv women voters for a proper, restful scat at these two tramway starting points. Evidently councillors believe we shall continue to vote for them, but I and many others will never again vote for any candidate until we are assured that we shall be treated as good citizens and that our simple wants will be considered with some of the courtesy that they bestow on any bodv of men wanting more.sporting grounds or other privileges. Any man discriminating so unfairly between male and female voters Is not qualified to deal fairly with any municipal matter. Brave men are they not who will watch tired women with heavy parcels stand often for from 7 to 10 minutes waiting for the next tram? Give these callous councillors the heavy parcels the women have now to carry and see how quickly some £5 or £lO would be squandered for their own comfort. Shame on them to have even to be asked for these seats. If these councillors have no sense of what is necessary for the comfort and convenience of both men and women they should stand aside and we’d find plenty of capable and willing women to do more than they do, and do it quickly.—l am, etc., No Fair Play, No Vote.
