PREVENTION OF CRUELTY
MONTHLY MEETING OF SOCIETY Mr R. Fountain presided at the monthly meeting of the Otago Society for the" Prevention of Cruelty to Animals yesterday and there, were also present Messrs J. R. Dickison, T. livine, S. P. Norwood, J. H. Kirkwood, G. Matheson and A. Clarke. Mr Fountain extended a welcome to Mr Clark, a new member of the comreport of the inspector (Mr J. J. Hinchclilf) stated that five cases of alleged cruelty were investigated during the month. One case - was still being considered. During the year 104 new members (including two life members) were enrolled. The chairman said that, in company with the inspector and a solicitor, he had inspected the new stock route which had been decided on by the City Council. The route, he said, was quite unsuitable for some types of cattle, and he could see no reason why drovers should not be p_imitted to use the old route.- The inspector said that the council nad arranged a conference with drovers and other interested parties at which the difficulties would be discussed.
