AUSTRALIA’S AIR FORCE ACHIEVEMENTS RECOUNTED (Rec. 10 p.m.) MELBOURNE, Oct. 22. R.A.A.F. aircraft in this war have flown 80,000,000 miles in 500,000 operational hours. They have sunk 81 ships and damaged 235 others. These details of R.A.A.F. achievements have been disclosed by the Department of Air. In the South-west Pacific Australian planes have also destroyed 322 Japanese barges and damaged 404 others. Since the outbreak of the war £350.000,000 has been spent on' the R.A.A.F. The highest proportion of the personnel is still based in Britain, but 4000 men are serving in the Middle East and Mediterranean theatres and more than 1000 in India. The R.A.A.F. strength in the Pacific is being steadily increased.
