SUP ON RAILWAY

MANAWATU GORGE LINE DERAILMENT OF CARRIAGE (P.A.) PALMERSTON N„ Oct. 16. _The railway through the Manawatu Gorge was blocked by a slip five miles from Woodville yesterday, passengers on railcars having to be conveyed by road past the affected part. The line was clear by mid-day to-day. The passenger car attached to the early goods train from Palmerston North on Saturday was derailed when ninning through the Manawatu Gorge. Had not the car swung inwards towards the earth bank, the incident might have had serious consequences, as there is a very steep drop into the river at the point of derailment. The passengers, none of whom was injured, were conveyed by bus to Woodville.
