BUS SERVICES

AN INCREASED DEMAND PROBLEM FOR TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT The Transport Committee will report to the meeting of the City Council on Monday night that an increase of revenue of £1563 is' disclosed in the Transport Manager’s statement of the traffic receipts for the four-weekly period ended June 3, compared with the corresponding period of ,1943. The position from April 1 to June 3, a period of nine weeks, shows a total increase in revenue of £3112, equivalent to 6.94 per cent.,_ compared with the corresponding period last year. The increase is regarded as highly satisfactory when it is considered .that it is in addition to increases experienced for the previous two or three years. The increase in bus revenue for the same period is equivalent to 13.3 per cent., the report adds, and it gives some indication of the problem facing the department to cater for the demands now being made on the bus services. In the Roslyn combined cable and bus service the increase is 12.1 per cent., and here again the department is experiencing difficulty in catering for the requirements of .this line, particularly between 5 and 6 p.m.
