LICENSING INQUIRY

GOVERNMENT’S RESPONSIBILITY

REPLY TO MR HOLLAND (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 12. The following reply has been received by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr S. G. Holland, from the Acting Prime Minister, Mr P. G. Sullivan, to his inquiry concerning the proposed commission of inquiry into the' licensed liquor trade:— “ You may accept my assurance that the order of reference proposed is as comprehensive and all-embracing as can be devised, following the lines of the last English Royal Commission on the subject. With reference to the personnel, this is under consideration and has not been finally determined. Your request for consultation on that matter will be considered, but you will agree with me, I am sure, that the responsibility for the decision must rest with the Government.”
