Complimentary Social.—On Monday evening a social evening was tendered to the retring Mayor, Mr F. A. Laloli, and Mrs Laloli on the occasion of Mr Laloli s retirement from the position of Mayor. Mr Laloli has given continuous service for 27 years in municipal affairs, the first 10 vears as a councillor and 17 years as Mayor During his term as Mayor he was at each election returned unopposed Present at the function were all the members of the former council and their wives, the town clerk, the borough staff, and the picture theatre staff. Speeches were made by Mr T. Waigth (Deputy Mayor) Crs J. C. Gilchrist. W. J. Henderson, and the town clerk (Mr A. Burton). Presentations were made to both Mr and Mrs Laloli. Accepting the presentations and acknowledging the tributes paid, Mr Laloli gave a brief resume of borough affairs over the last 25 years. Musical items were given by Mrs W. J. Henderson, Miss O. Gordon, and Mr J. C. Gilchrist.
Mayoral Installation.—The installation of Mr C. S. G. Nicholson as Mayor of Roxburgh took place at the Town Hall on Tuesday evening. All the members of the council, the retiring councillors, the retiring Mayor (Mr F. A. Laloli), and the town clerk (Mr A. Burton) were present. The installation was carried out by Mr Laloli, who congratulated the new Mayor and wished him every success. The new Mayor, returning thanks, stated that with the co-opcration of his councillors he would give of his best in the interests of the borough. The newlyelected councillors duly signed the required declarations and were elected to office. Opportunity was taken by the old council to present to Mr Laloli a framed embossed minute, which was passed at the last meeting of the council, referring to the very valued service given to the Borough of Roxburgh by both Mr and Mrs Laloli during the past 27 years. The presentation was made by Mr T. Waigth, and Mr Laloli suitably acknowledged the honour conferred on him, stating that it would be highly treasured by both Mrs Laloli and himself. Plunket Society.—At the thirtieth annual meeting of the Roxburgh Plunket Society there was a full attendance of members In the absence of the president, Mrs Huyshe Eliot occupied the chair. Mrs J. Bennetts was reflected president, Mrs J. R. Gilmour treasurer, and Mrs T. Durday secretary. Presenting the annual report, tire president thanked the committee and all who helped during the year. The work had gone on smoothly, she said, and the collections were satisfactory. The proceeds from the sheep sales were very gratifying. Nurse Riddell continued to prove herself very helpful to the mothers and babies.
