NOTES FROM INVERCARGILL
(Special) INVERCARGILL, Apl. 18. The hurdler Nightcalm took the sprint honours at Invercargill this morning, when he dashed over half a mile m 50 4-ssec. He is !o revert to flat racing on Saturday, and will contest the Awnrua Handicap. Inscrutable was going better than Carpos at the.end of a mile in lmin 48 2-sscc, the last four in 54sec. Bashful Lady and Sister Sal ran seven furlongs in lmin 33 2-ssee, the last four in 55sec. They finished practically on terms, with Bashful Lady doing it better on the inner. Carolyn finished better than Divorced over six furlongs in lmin 20 4-sscc, the first two in 26 2-ssec.
Elvena shaped well when running live furlongs in Imin 5 l-ssec, the first furlong in 12 3-ssec. Bow Street, and Fleet Street were sprinted a couple of times over three furlongs, the first in 40 l-ssec and the second in 39 4-ssec. Sal’s Pal, Sir Saladin, Gold Robe, and Araboa were let off with pace work. They all look well. Gold Robe was schooled over the steeplechase fences yesterday, and gave a dashing display. Heidelberg outjumped and outpaced Timber Topper and Red Wind over a round of the steeplechase course this morning. Timber Topper has had a setback with a cold, and Red Wind bears a very light appearance.
Anglo-French and Sir Percy were schooled a couple of times over two racing hurdles on the course proper. Anglo-French, who looks a much improved horse as the result of his outing at Riverton, gave a faultless display, and Sir Percy also shaped well. AngloFrench will not fulfil his steeplechase engagement on Saturday. If sea transport can be arranged, Anglo-French and Noko may be taken to Auckland for the Great Northern meeting in June. Boolamskee is to be sent home to Ids owner for a long spell, and he can be regarded as a doubtful starter on Saturday. Mr D. M. Twecdie lias sold Winning Flight to Mr A. Ferguson, of Dunedin, and the daughter of Winning Hit. is now in 11. A. Andcrton's care. She had lightened up a lot with the racing she had at. Riverton. She will make her first appearance in her new owner’s colours on Saturday. , , ~ Georgia was also sold after the Rlvciton meeting, and lias been taken over by F. Langford, who will put him to jumping. __
