NOTES FROM RICCARTON

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH, Apl. 17.

There was no: much work on the tracks at Riccarton this morning, most of the horses who raced on Saturday being on the easy list. Some of the North Island visitors are booked to return home this week, but others will remain for. the patriotic meeting to be held on Saturday. So far as visiting South Island horses are concerned, it seems probable that most of them will remain here for Saturday's engagements.

Old Glory, in R. Register’s team, is lo be tried as a jumper. He is shaping well in his preliminary education. C. G. Humphries had Gulf Stream on the track this morning. He has got over his attack of jaundice, but it is not certain that, he will be racing on Saturday W. F. Ellis, who was riding here last Saturday, has gone home to fulfil engagements at the Southland Racing Club's meeting next Saturday. The North Island apprentice, A. G. Waddell, is having a holiday in Timaru for a few days, but he will return to Riccarton at the end of this week to ride at the patriotic meeting. R. Wilson trained two winners on Saturday. making four for the meeting. They were Cheiiow Dene (dead heat), Piccolo, Beau Cheval and Gamble.

Prince Shad has joined the team of C. Emerson, who will train him until Mr F. C. Christie takes up’ his residence at Riccarton. The two-year-old Rahiri, in the same ownership, has resumed work after a short rest.
