Strong Gale.—On Monday last the district experienced the worst nor’-wester for some time past. The gale lasted until early evening, when heavy rain commenced, and continued throughout the night. The rain was particularly welcome, as the district was becoming badly parched. H , ~ Golf.—The annual meeting of the Alexandra Golf Club was held on Thursday night. Father O’Connell presided. The balance sheet showed a satisfactory position, with a credit balance of £l3. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr W. A. Bodkin, M.P.; president, Mr J D. Watt; vice-presidents, Mrs R. Tohill and Mr F. W. Duncan; secretary, Mr F. B. Belcher; treasurer, Mr A. S. Pauli; Executive Committee—Misses N. OOKane and D. Marshal), and Messrs C. A. Robertson, V. J. Schaumann, and M. Cahill. . ml _ , Croquet Tournament.—The annual Easter croquet tournament held by the Alexandra Ladies’ Croqurt Club was commenced yesterday. Notwithstanding the difficulties of travel 50 players have entered from Dunedin, Invercargill, and Central Otago clubs. Personal.— Flight Lieutenant Keith Tay-lor-Cannon, youngest son of' Mrs L. L. Taylor-Cannon, has been awarded the D.F.C.—Mr J. S. Nicolson, director of school dental clinics, was in Alexandra on official business on Wednesday.
