NOTES FROM INVERCARGILL

(Special) INVERCARGILL, Mar. 30. Benbecula took no harm from his successful outing last Saturday, and is looking a picture. He will be ridden by the stable apprentice, D. Dawson, on the first day of the Riverton meeting.

The leg which Heidelberg injured at Winton is still enlarged, but the son of Lord Warden is apparently not feeling it, as he is getting through pace work without showing any signs of soreness. F. W. Ellis thinks he mav be able to race him on the second day‘of the Riverton meeting. Fair Trial came through his winning effort on Saturday without any ill-effects, and as a matter of fact he looks better than ever. He will be ridden in the Riverton Cup by W. F. Ellis, whose other mount’s for the opening day of the Riverton meeting will include Silver Lily, Siegi'orm, and Great Coon.

Nigger Lad is still on the injured list as the result of a jarred ligament, and, although the leg is improving, it has been decided to take no risks with him, and he will be g'iven a good spell before being required to race again. Although Secret Flight has been in work for' several months, her trainer has been forced to take her along quietly, because of a doubtful front leg, and she had her first fast gallop for some time yesterday morning, when she showed that she had lost none of her speed by running half a mile eomfortbaly in 50 l-ssec. She is still sporting a fairly big middle piece, however, and it' is problematical whether she will stand up to hard galloping. She has engagements at Riverton.

G. A. McKay, who has made Invercargill his headquarters since the Gore meeting with Kiloney, Sir Saladin, Gold Robe, and Legislator, has now transferred to Riverton. W. McEwan, with Paybook and Latest Song, 'and J. A. Wilson, with Listen In Royal Rae, and Princess Myosotis, have also gone on to Riverton. R. E. McLellaq. b,as transferred his team to Riverton where he will take up residence as mine host of Trembath’s Hotel.
