TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel An entry of 41 was received for the Winton Juvenile Stakes of 1945. The starling times at the Auckland trotting meeting (win and place betting) are: —11.45, 12.30, 1.15, 2.5, 2,50, 3,35, 4.25, 5.15. Since their arrival in Auckland, the Canterbury horses, Bohemian, Imperial Lady,. Acropolis, and Golden Imp, have been shaping well in their track work. The Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting will be opened with a non-totalisator race run at 10.47, and this will be followed by the Trial Handicap, which is timed to start at 11.45. , Imperial Lady, Dianus, and Gold Flight worked in company over 10 furlongs in 2min 53see. The trio are reported to be in excellent condition for their engagements. , ~ _ Golden Imp, the sister to Gold bar, worked on the dirt track at Epsom and covered a mile in 2min 19sec, the last half in lmin 9scc, without being driven out. The filly pleased by the manner in which she shaped in her work. Acropolis, in company with Airspeed, worked over a mile and a-lialf in 3min 50sec, the final half-mile in lmin lOsec. He finished very strongly over the last quarter. Acropolis and Imperial Lady should have a close tussle in the Great Northern Derby. On Tuesday at Epsom Bohemian, on the grass, travelling 48 feet out, dashed over the final half-mile of a work-out in lmin 9sec. Bohemian created a very favourable impression, and showed that he knows how to pace, although he is inclined to be a bit fracious at the start. An owner recently walked his horses from Melbourne to Adelaide to race them at the Wayville trotting meetings. In the early days of raring Canterbury horses were walked to Dunedin and continued round the goldfields circuit to Queenstown and back. Two northern, pacers, Parshall and Stuart Lee. both winners at the Auckland Trotting Club’s summer meeting, should (says "Abaydos”) have good prospects of gaining further distinction before the present season terminates. Parshall, a good winner for F. J. Smith, has contested 12 races this season for three firsts and six placings, and in his unplaced efforts was not discredited. At Addington in October Parshall won the Avon Handicap off 3piin 21sec in 3min 13 2-ssec, and at Epsom last month won the Free-for-AJI, after being third In the Auckland Trotting Cup and the President's Handicap. Parshall has won £1935 in stakes tins season. Since being purchased by Mr G. W. H. Bull, Stuart Lee has raced courageously, if a little unluckily at times, his record being three wins and eight placings in 11 starts, a return that has compensated his owner for previous disappointments with the speedy but unreliable Seven Thirty. M. Stewart considers Stuart Lee will develop into a good stayer.
