REQUESTS FOR COAL
BRITAIN, AMERICA, AND NEW ZEALAND AUSTRALIAN PROBLEM (Rec. 11.45 p.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 11. “ I only wish that there was somebody in this country who could tell me how to get more coal,” the Prime Minister, Mr J. Curtin, declared in the House of Representatives to-day. "The problem is one of keeping pace with requirements. Last year’s production provided about 800,000 tons less than the previous year, and we have been unable to maintain our reserves.” Mr Curtin'said that both Britain and America had asked Australia to send coal to Europe because of their own coal problems. New Zealand also wanted Australian coal.
