PRIMARY PRODUCTION

Sir, —A number of letters have appeared in your paper in regard to the difficulties and disabilities of the primary producer. Attention has been drawn to the fact that the present Government lends an attentive ear to the grievances, real or otherwise, of miners, wharf labourers, and other strong unions, while the protests of the farmers are as a voice crying tn the wilderness. To my mind the farmers have only themselves to blame through their lack of co-operation and organisaNo Government, however unsympathetic to the farming community, could turn a deaf ear to a united demand for redress of any just grievance. The fall in production is to be deplored, and its effect on London funds has as yet to make itself Celt. If the high standard of living that we have enjoyed in the past is to be maintained, primary production must be protected and stimulated. —I am, etc., Paganus.
