WOMEN’S BASEBALL
Sir, —The letter published under tire above heading in your issue of February 10 contains a very interesting suggestion. It is one, no less than that the selectors should so far neglect their obvious duty of selecting the best team from those available in favour of choosing a particular player because all clubs must be represented. If this policy were carried to its logical conclusion players of undoubted representative standard would be debarred from selection simply because there was no room fbr them. This would be a quite absurd position. Players who in the past have represented Otago and have now been “ coldshouldered " simply because they did not “ train up to the standard required ” must be prepared to stand aside in favour of young new players who, if the game is to prosper, must be encouraged by the prospect of gaining representative honours, judged by ability and keenness and not by club affiliations. It should be noted, moreover, that the seven players selected from the Y.W.C.A. come from two teams.—l am, etc., Bathgate Park.
