BALCLUTHA
New Building.—Balclutha's first public building since the war began in 1939 was commenced this week in the shape of a linesmen’s store and garage situated on property owned by the Post and Telegraph Department at the rear of the'Post Office, and facing James street. The building will have dimensions of 85ft by 26ft, and will have steel and concrete foundations and walls, with a roof of timber. The Love Construction Company, of Dunedin, has the contract, and Mr J. Kearney is the foreman of works. When the building is completed, which will not be for about three months, the intentiort is to convert it into a temporary Post Office, to be used bv the postal staff while the present Post Office is being rebuilt and eX Man fatally Injured.—An Inquest was held on Monday at Kaitangata, before Mr William Roy, district coroner, on the body of Robert Wesley Leishman, who was injured by a runaway horse at the mine on January 11, and died in thei Balclutha Hospital nine days later.
