HEAVY RAINFALL
“It must be many years since such heavy rain fell in such a short time,” stated Mr William Forrester yesterday. “In 12 or 13 hours almost two inches were recorded.” Up to 9 a.m. yesterday 190 points had fallen in 24 hours. The fall of three inches last week was welcomed by farmers, but the additional two inches on Wednesday will do much harm unless drying winds and sunshine follow immediately.
