WOOL SEASON
THIRD DUNEDIN APPRAISAL The Dunedin Stock Agents’ and Woolbrokers’ Association reports that the third appraisement was concluded yesterday. The total offering by all brokers was 29,085 bales, as compared with 25,968 bales at the corresponding sale last season. A number of high country clips were offered, and all grades of merino, halfbreds, and crossbreds were represented, with the usual percentage of wools suitable for allocation to scourers. Nearly all the crossbred clips showed the effect of the unfavourable conditions, throughout the year, and consequently there was a larger quantity of yolkstained and cotted wools. The large percentage of tender wool in all catalogues was also very noticeable, and this was reflected in the- average realisation. Some very nice merino and half bred clips were submitted from Central Otago, these in most cases being free from duss, though in some clips dry yolk was in evidence owing to the snow and severe winter conditions. There was only a small percentage of merino wools offered at this appraisal. ■ ' The attention of growers is again drawn to the fact that necks and pieces are still .being'mixed in some cases, ahd ,the full Schedule price for these grades is not being received, The general get up of the wool was satisfactory, but some growers are still not paying enough attention to the skirting of their clips, and. as a result are penalised in price. The top price of the appraisement was 25d for three bales of super merino from the National Mortgage and Agency Company, Ltd.’s bin wool, and one bale of super merino branded Avocadale, on account of Mr P. M. Hefferrran, of Moonlight.
