EARLY SETTLERS
ANNUAL MEETING OF ASSOCIATION Mr A. Mclnnes (vice-president), in the unavoidable absence of Mr G. M. Gardiner (president), was in the chair at the annual meeting of the North Otago Early Settlers’ Association yesterday afternoon. Regret was expressed at the illness of Mr Gardiner. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives cf members who had died during the year. A message of congratulation was forwarded to Mrs Annie Dorward on her ninety-fifth birthday. Pleasure was expressed at the presence of Mr W. Smyth. The chairman made appreciative reference to the services given to the association by Miss M. Dorward, who was absent through indisposition. The annual report and balance sheet were adopted. It was stated that the membership stood at 350, but many s , u b‘ scriptions were outstanding. Sufficient money had not been received to meet all commitments. The year ended witn a credit balance of twopence. Mr Mclnnes thanked members for their interest in the association’s activities during the year, and remarked that it was the association’s aim to bring all early settlers and their descendants together, and thus keep the pioneer spirit al The following officers were elected:— Patrons—Colonel J. C. Nicholls, Messrs L J. K. Familton and G. L. Grenfell, president. Mr R. B. Meek; vice-presidents, Messrs H. M. Barclay and J. D. Rutheiford; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. Falconer; committee —Messrs G. S. Jones, John Newlands, A. Mclnnes, W. Dumb eton, H. Archibald, W. Forrester J. Hartlev and James Newlands, Mesdames Marshall. R. B. Meek and Drummond. Social Committee—Mesdames J - F. Familton, and Falconer, Misses M. Dorward and Smyth.
