CRICKET ASSOCIATION
REPRESENTATIVE MATCHES A meeting of the Otago Cricket Association was held last night, the president (Mr W. R. Brinsley) being in the chair. The Southland Cricket Association wrote advising that, owing to travel restrictions, it would be unable to arrange a return match with Otago.—Received. A letter was received from the Canterbury Cricket Association suggesting April 8 and 10 as the dates for the Brabin Shield match at Christchurch and March 10, 11. and 13 for the senior representative game at Dunedin. Both matches, however, were subject to the easing of railway travelling restrictions. If conditions made it impossible to play the representative match on March 10, 11, and 13 the Canterbury Association would have to consider cancelling the game. In the latter contingency the Canterbury Association would meet part of the hotel expenses incurred by the Otago players at Christchurch at Christmas. —The letter was received, and it was decided to thank the Canterbury Association for its offer.
New Cricket Balls Advice was received from the Ministry of Supply that orders for cricket balls now placed overseas will be given consideration after being sponsored by the New Zealand Government. Limited supplies of new balls would soon be available.—Received. Sportsmen’s Church Service The Rev. Frank de Lisle, in a letter to the association, advised that he Intended to conduct a sportsmen’s,'church service on Sunday, February 20.’and he invited all cricketers to attend.—Received. Unregistered Players A letter was received from the NorthEast Valley Cricket Club stating that in the Second Grade’B match played against Albion-Y.M.C.A. on January 29 Albion played several unregistered players. North-East Valley did not appeal against the result of the game, but asked that it should be replayed. Mr W. S. Armitage said there had been several complaints about unregistered players and the grades in which certain cricketers were playing. He moved that the Grade Committee investigate the matter and report to the next meeting. Mr W. Braithwaite, seconding the motion, said the rules were being openly flouted, and men were playing against boys in some grades. Mr W. Hughes said that he had had heard of a game in which nine of the eleven players were unregistered. The motion was carried. Next Saturday’s Matches
Mr Hughes moved that the matches to be commenced next! Saturday should be two-day games.—Several members objected to this, quoting the rule that where a day's play was lost through rain, as happened last Saturday, a one-day match should bfe played.—On being put to the meeting, the motion was carried.
