FREE KINDERGARTENS
MEETING OF DUNEDIN COUNCIL The first council meeting of the Dunedin Free Kindergarten Association for the year was held in the Returned Services’ Association committee rooms on February 3. Mrs A. N. Haggitt presided, and others present were Lady Sidey, Mesdames R. A. Ewing, J. G. Dykes. H. A. Gamble, W. Garrett, G. Greig, S. B. Harris, I. R. McAllum, J. H. McDougall, G. M. McLean, J. M. Paterson, J. C. Shand, T. K. S. Sidey, D. Smeaton, C. V. Smith, W. B. Taverner, W. A. Williamson, and W. Wright. It was reported that all of the eight kindergartens had reopened. Advice was received from the Education Department that the Government is this year increasing the number of student allowances, which will enable the association to train a full quota of 20 students.
An application for a kindergarten at Abbotsford was received and fully discussed. The council decided that, pending the completion of the necessary arrangements, a branch would be opened in that district. The financial statement was read, and accounts amounting to £204 2s 5d were passed for payment. ,
