BLUESKIN SHOW

SUCCESSFUL GATHERING GOOD ENTRIES OF CATTLE The seventy-fifth annual show of the Blueskin Agricultural and Pastoral Society at Waitati on Saturday was one of the most successful conducted by the society for some years. Although this show is generally regarded as one of the smallest on the summer schedule, it attracted exhibits of stock from over a wide area, the farms on the north line being particularly well represented. Conditions were ideal, and there was a large sttcndsncGt A fine selection of horses paraded before the judges. The draughts were a good even lot, although the number of young animals was somewhat disappointing. Mr C. T. McCallum was the most consistently successful competitor in this section, and secured the award for the champion mare with his Princess Rowena, a fine representative of the Clydesdale breed. Mr A. J. Payne and Messrs Fraser Bros, were also prominent in the prize lists, and Messrs T. O’Connell, W. Fox, and H. Flett secured awards in the classes for lighter farm horses. The hackney classes, which have been consistently large in the shows this season, provided good competition, the champion ribbon going to an entry by Miss R. Ireland. Mr W. Taiaroa’s showy piebald, Viking, was again very successful in the competitions. The pony classes were not large. F. Ford secured the champion ribbon with an outstanding pony, and A. Robertson received a special award for his fine little pony stallion Fireman. Entries in many of the cattle classes were the best on record, and much of the stock would have been a credit to any show in the province. The Jerseys were outstanding, and the championships in this class were won by the James Powell Rest Home (cow) and Mr H. McCaughan (bull). Mr G. Cassie also secured several awards. The Ayrshire breed was strongly represented by cattle of good quality. • The champion ribbons went to Mr W. Don (bull) and Mr T. O’Connell (cow), and Mr G. Reid secured a number of class awards. Mr J. Sarginson was the only exhibitor in the Friesian section, and, with Mr H. McCaughan, was also profninent in the awards in the crossbred cattle section.
