EMPIRE THEATRE

ROMANCE AND COMEDY Every now and again a film comes along that lives in the memories of all who see it. Such a film is “Rose of Tralee,” the principal attraction in the new programme screened at the Empire Theatre yesterday. There is a charming theme throughout this picture, and the joys and sorrows of Paddy O’Brien, his wife Mary and baby daughter Rose make it outstanding entertainment. Paddy O’Brien is played by John Longden who, it will be remembered, went to Australia some time ago to make the film, “ The Silence of Dean Maitland.” Mary, his wife, is played by Lesley Brook, whose performance is touching and sincere, and his daughter. Rose, is portrayed by Angela Glynn. There are many lovely old songs in “ Rose of Tralee,” and numbered among these are “ Macushla,” “ Rose of Tralee,” “ Mountains of Mourne,” and “Dear Little Shamrock.” Also prominent in the cast are Talbot O’Farrell and Morris Harvey as a pair of lodging-house cronies; George Carney as the villain of the piece, and lovely Virginia Keiley, who portrays the role of an American girl who is also in love with Paddy. The box plans are at the theatre and the D.I.C.
