MIDDLEMARCH
1 Strath-Taicri Pipe Band. —The StrathTaieri Highland Pipe Band held its annual social last Friday evening. There was a good attendance of friends and supporters, including visitors from the Hyde and Macrae’s Flat districts. In addition to items presented by the members of the band, songs were contributed by Mrs A. Harris, Messrs R. Reid, W. Robson, and A. Guild. Mrs R. Ayson played the accompaniments. Supper was provided by the band members, and the rest of t'he evening was spent in dancing. Mr Guild was the M.C., and music for the dance was provided by Peat’s Orchestra Favourable Farming Conditions—Conditions are favourable for farmers at present, with plentiful rain and bright sunshine, and cereal and turnip crops are making satisfactory progress. Lucerne crops are now being harvested, and are in a good state, and it is expected that the hav crops will be heavy. Although shearing is now under way generally, the shortage of labour is proving a decided handicap.
