CROMWELL
A. and P. Society.—The membership of the Lakes County A. and P. Society is very small at present, having dwindled from 131 in 1939 to 19 this year. Subscriptions have been reduced in an endeavour to keep the association alive. Good Crops of Apricots.—Apricots are making rapid growth with the favourable conditions now existing. Thinning is being extensively carried out and several growers report heavy crops. Other stone fruit crops are also making good progress. Cherries are reported to be colouring and should be ready for marketing in a week. . . .. Alterations to School. —The construction of an additional class room and teachers rest room, as well as other structural alterations, are to be carried out shortly at the Cromwell School. This work should prove of great value to the .school, as it will enable all the pupils to be kept together. At the present time some of the lower classes are taking their lessons in a hall adjacent to the school.
