ADDINGTON MARKET
GENERAL EASING OF VALUES (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 17. There was a sharp easing in practically all classes of meat at Addington to-day. The main cause was the heavy entry. A large proportion of the spring lamb" penning was passed, the remainder selling, at a drop of 6s to 8s on last week. Store Sheep.—The qntry numbered 1800. and included the first of the season hill wethers from Marlborough. There was a small attendance of buyers, and the sale was dragging for all classes. The best price for wethers was 26s 3d for local twotooths. Onf hundred Marlborough twotooths made 24s 6d; 158 four-tooths, 21s 6d, and the balance from 18s 6d to 19s 3d. The demand for hoggets was weaker, a line of 304 ewes being passed in at 345. Shorn ewe hoggets were also passed in at 24s 6d. Good ewes and lambs sold well, one pen making 245, all counted, but medium sheep showed a drop. Fat Sheep.—There was an entry of about 5000, practically all shorn. In sympathy with the drop In beef and lambs there was a decided easing from the Outset, and this continued throughout: Best quality sheep showed a decline of from 3s to 4s a head, while there was a greater drop for medium and light sheep The highest price for wethers was 47s 7d, and for ewes 38s 7d. Shorn hoggets sold up t.o 37s Id, Fat Cattle.—The entry was 602. compared with 411 last week The sale was erratic, opening weakly- and firming slightly over the concluding stages, but on the average the drop ranged from 30s to 70s.
