MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Mosgiel Borough Council, held last night, was attended by the Mayor (Mr W. P. Hartstonge) and Crs E. J. Wilson, J. F. McCartney. W. P. Dyer, J. S. Blackie, and T. Gibson. The Otago Hospital Board wrote concerning a proposal that application be made to the Local Government Loans Board for sanction to raise a loan of £200,000 for the erection of hospital buildings.—lt was decided to ask the local representative on the board (Mr A. F. Quelcli) to attend the next meeting of the council.
The St John Ambulance Association forwarded a circular letter soliciting a donation. —The sum of £3 3s was voted. Mr James Reid wrote complaining of the state of the fence on the Silverstream reserve.—lt was decided to advise Mr Reid that the council would supply the material if he would repair the fence. The clerk reported that two building permits had been granted since last meeting, the value of the work involved being £985. The chairman of the General Committee reported that the committee had recommended that representations be made to the Government regarding the erection of an overbridge at the Mosgiel Junction railway station.
Mr E. M. Strain was granted permission to screen pictures in the Coronation Hall on Christinas Day, the pictures to be suitable for that day. The application of the Taieri Cricket Club to use the Recreation Ground for the coming season was granted. The chairman of the Reserves Committee reported that the major part of the council’s plantation of trees at Whare Flat had been destroyed by fire on October 22. Cr Wilson reported that arrangements were being made to have. the Taieri swimming baths filled in readiness for the opening day of the season on November 6.
