GENERAL EISENHOWER’S FUTURE

WASHINGTON, Oct. 31. Army circles expect that General Eisenhower will return to the United States when the Italian campaign nears the end to direct the office of the Chief of Staff, coincident with General Marshall’s departure for London, says the Army and Navy Journal The service organ says General Alexander is the logical successor to Generai Eisenhower, and adds that General Eisenhower is familiar with the Pacific as well as the European theatre, since he served under General MacArthur in the Philippines before Pearl Harbour. “It would therefore appear,” states the paper, “ that he has been specially orepared to serve in Washington to help the President in the settlement of questions of high strategy.”
