COUNCIL OF SPORT
SUPPORT FOR MOVEMENT (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 23. Emphatic support for the Council of Sport was forthcoming from the president of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association, Lieutenant-colonel T. Harold Pettit, in his address at the annual meeting of the association to-day. “We have no apprehensions on the score of Government interference with sport,” he said. “ I think that from the experience we have had with the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr W. E. Parry, we can assure all who have doubts that such things as ‘ Government interference,’ ‘ regimentation,’ and so forth are mere myths that they can safely dismiss from their minds. The council of this association is quite satisfied that the question of amateur status does not arise in connection with the Council of Sport, and that the officers and members of the association do not endanger their amateur status by association with professionals in the movement.”
