TROTTING NOTES

' A driver at Auckland w,as recently fined £1 for failing to wear a skull cap in a race. . , , It is to be hoped that the unnamed stock in the next volume of the Trotting Stud Book will be reduced to a minimum. It is reported that substantial offers have been refused for the three-year-old On Tour, by Dillon Hall—Pleasure Cruise, by Happy Voyage—Pleasant Drive, by King Cole. Plunder Bar, who is amongst those In favour for the Three-year-old Handicap at Oamaru, was got by Jack Potts —Waress, by Man o’ War—lvy Mac, by General Mac from Manuka, a sister to Ribbonwood. In his last start as a two-year-old Plunder Bar was beaten by a neck by Acropolis in the Sapling Stakes. Paul Collette, Scottish Emperor, Bonny Bridge, Netherby, News Agent, Donald Dinnie, Leonin, Northern Lass, and Volo’s Victory also started. The following shows a comparison between the handicap and the fastest times recorded by horses engaged in the New Zealand Trotting Cup (4min 27sec class) : Bayard scr <4min 13 2-ssec). Bronze Eagle scr (4min 17 3-ssec), Coquette scr (4min 18 l-ssec), Dusky Sound scr (4min 18 4-ssec), Ferry Post scr (4min 27 l-ssec), Gold Bar scr (4min 13 3-ssec), Joan Conquest scr (4min 22sec), Par shall scr (4min 15 4-sse’c), Shadow Maid scr (4min 21 4-ssec), Burt Scott 12yds bhd (4min 24 3-ssec), Countless 12 (4min 19 2-ssec), Fine Art 12 (4min 15sec), Hardy Oak 12 (4min 23sec), Pacing Power 12 (4min 22sec), Peter Smith 12 (4min 15 3-ssec), Springfield Globe 12 (4min 15 4-ssec). Loyal Rey 24 (4min 13 l-ssec), Nelson Eddy 24 (4min 17 l-ssec), and Haughty 36 (4min 13 4-ssec). In the Improvers' Handicap at the Oamaru meeting several fast-improving trotters are engaged, the number including Worthy Addition, Believe Me, Teddy Gregg, and Blaekdale. Believe Me. a four-year-old gelding by Quite Sure — Biddy Parrish, has started only three times this season for a first, second, and a third. His first start was in the New Zealand Trotting Stakes at Addington, when he finished third to Fantom and Desmond’s Pride, and at the Wellington meeting last month after winning the Nai Nai Handicap, he ran third to Sure Lady and Teddy Gregg in the Taita Handicap. Teddy Gregg in his only two starts Ihis season has been second twice; Worthy Addition has started twice without filling a place, but in his only start last season he won well at Ashburton. Blaekdale came from Southland with a big reputation that he has quite failed to justify (says the Press), but at the trials at New Brighton he showed he possessed a good burst of speed. In H. J. Smith’s stable, Blaekdale has made some improvement in the last few months.
