WAITAKI RIVER EROSION

Sir,—Allow me to express my opinion regarding the unnecessary destruction of land by the Waltaki River at Otekaike. I understand the Government was approached regarding this serious matter about 18 months ago, but up to date nothing has been done. Already four farmers have lost over 50 acres, and if something is not done immediately this whole flat of 150 odd acres is sure to go. This land Is some of the best here, and if allowed to go will probably put these farmers out. If this job were seen to immediately the river could be kept to its original stream and the land saved at a very small cost. What is the cause of the hold-up?—l am, etc., Urgent. Otekaike, October 16.
