STATE THEATRE
Headed by a distinguished cast, including Gene Tierney, Victor Mature, Ona Munson, Walter Huston, Phyllis Brooks, Albert Basserman, Maria Ouspenskaya, and Eric Blore, “ The Shanghai Gesture ” will be screened at the State Theatre to-morrow. First laurels must be awarded to Mr Pressburger for his lavish, exciting, and magnificent production, which constitutes one of the most thrilling and most unforgettable motion pictures to come out of Hollywood for some time. It provides an entertainment that has everything—top-notch acting, crisp dialogue, smart direction, gorgeous gowns, and a story that is packed with drama and colour. One cannot Say that this picture depicts the life cf the average person, because it is placed in a world remote from most of us. One cannot, however, forget its tremendous impact. One cannot easily find a phrase to fit the story It tells. Yet to everyone who sees it there will be answers to strange questions—questions asked in every time and in every part of the world.
