D.F.C. AWARD

(P.A.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 19. The award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Pilot Officer Terence McKinley, R.N.Z.A.F., of Wellington, was announced to-day. The citation states: Pilot Officer McKinley took part in a 20-minute fight with five Junkers 88's. On another occasion his aircraft was caught in the searchlights and hit while over the target area, and on a third occasion he continued with a mine-laying operation after one engine had given out. The citation continued: " Pilot Officer McKinley is an outstanding captain, and his fine fighting spirit, courage, and leadership have gained him the entire confidence of his crew. His targets have included Berlin, Hamburg, and Essen.” „ , Pilot Officer McKinley was born at Nelson. His parents reside at Wellington.
