SOCIAL TO SOLDIERS
A welcome home social to Sister M. H. King and Gunner J. Fox, who are Home on furlough, and to Gunner J. Beggs, who returned some time ago, was held in the Glencairn Hail, Tomahawk, recently. Drivers H. L. Wootton and C. Hurreli were unable, to attend. The guests were Welcomed' 1 by Mr R. C. Collins, the, chairman of the;: Tomahawk Patriotic ‘ Committee,' other ;speakers being Mr J. Harbrow, Mr W. Fox, the Rev. J. Newlands, and Sister Jeffery, a veteran of' the last war. Mesdames Saunders and Mathieson represented the local Red Cross Sub-centre and the Women’s Institute respectively. Sister King was presented with a bouquet and chocolates, and Sister Jeffery received a shoulder spray as a tribute from men of the last war who were present. The soldiers were presented with cigarettes. The following items were contributed during the evening;—Pipe selections, Piper McMillan; violin solos, Mrs R. Martin; dancing, Miss Betty Hill. Dance music was played by Mr and Mrs Martin, Mr G. Wench, and .Mr J. Drain, "extras” being played by Mr F. Eggers.
