BATTLES OVER FRANCE

FORTRESS SUCCESSES FORTY-FIVE VICTIMS (Rec. 7 p.m.) RUGBY, July 14. Strong formations. of Flying Fortresses were out in raids on France to-day. They were attacked by about 100 enemy planes, of which they destroyed 45. Eight Fortresses were lost. The Fortresses attacked the airfields at’Le Bourget, Amiens, and Abbeville. The fighters escorting them accounted for six enemy fighters, in addition to those destroyed by the Fortresses. Four fighters were lost.

The raid on Abbeville was made by a French Lorraine squadron which celebrated Bastille Day with its first raid on the enemy. Paris radio says that in air raids on the Paris area yesterday morning 40 people were killed and 100 injured.
